Composite Decking Maintenance Guide

Composite decking cleaning could not be easier! The low maintenance decking boards do not require the same heavy maintenance as their timber alternatives - a quick wash twice a year is all you need.

How to clean composite decking?

Cleaning is required for all external building materials. We recommend a simple cleaning using a composite deck cleaner or a mix of soap, hot water, and a soft bristle brush when it comes to cleaning your composite decking. Cleaning composite deck boards is best done right after installation and again twice a year or so – usually spring or autumn. Regular upkeep will assist to ensure that the beauty of your outdoor living space is preserved for many years to come.

DEBRIS & SOIL

To eliminate surface debris, rinse the affected area with a hose. To clean dirt and debris from the embossing design, use warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush.

SNOW & ICE

To remove snow from the composite planks, use a plastic shovel. Melt the snow and ice off the deck surface using calcium chloride or rock salt.

Make sure to rinse it off thoroughly and dry it afterwards.

FOOD & GREASE

All spilled food should be cleaned up as quickly as possible. Spray the decking with a hose to remove food stains, then clean spills from the embossing pattern with warm, soapy water and a soft bristle brush.

Can you jet wash composite boards?

The short answer is yes, you can jet wash your composite decking, but you have to be careful with the pressure you put on it. Avoid jet washing too close to the boards or putting too much pressure on them. We advise you to not exceed the maximum pressure of 1500 psi. Follow the grain of the planks and wash in that direction. Finally, follow the recommended safety precautions for your jet washer.

Do composite decking boards scratch?

Composite decks are scratch-resistant but not scratch-proof. That means that they may potentially scratch over time but not easily. Moreover, they are not affected by foot traffic, meaning that scratches on composite decking will be non-existent if you walk on it.

To keep them looking fresh always lift up furniture, plants, or other objects when you are moving them.
